Tecate, MX (02/2020)

Every few months, Dr. Nguyen takes a group of optometry students from Marshall Ketchum University and Western University to Tecate, Mexico. The trip is a single day trip where they leave at 4 AM and meet at the Mexican border at 7 AM. The group then walk across the border with their equipment and set up at the DIF hospital. The trip occurs on the 3rd Saturday of each month and they see anywhere from 40-80 patients. 85% of patients need glasses and 15% of patients need cataract surgery. Of the many mission trips that Dr. Nguyen has been on, this is his favorite because they give everyone brand new custom glasses (no longer are we using recycled prescriptions) and they are able to provide FREE cataract surgery. There is a group of volunteer ophthalmologists that work next door and we are able to send them straight over for cataract surgery. Here are some pictures of the trip below!
