Jivan Hovsepyan, O.D., M.S.
Dr. Jivan Hovsepyan OD MS was born in Gyumri, Armenia, and grew up in Pasadena, California. He received his Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Neuroscience at the University of California, Riverside with a minor degree in Philosophy. He also received his Doctorate in Optometry (OD) and Masters (MS) degrees at the Southern California College of Optometry. As part of the MS program, Dr. Hovsepyan conducted groundbreaking research on “stereopsis” or “3D” vision.
As part of the OD training, Dr. Hovsepyan worked at the prestigious Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington DC. Working with active duty military personnel, he treated eye conditions developing from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Dr. Hovsepyan also trained at the Four Corners Regional Health Center in the Navajo Nations Indian Reservation where he treated patients with severe glaucoma, cataracts, and various corneal conditions. Dr. Hovsepyan’s passion is humanitarian work. He serves on the board of directors for California Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (CA VOSH) and the Pasadena Host Lions Club. Dr. Hovsepyan has organized and served at more than 40 free clinics totaling more than 400 hours of humanitarian work. He regularly serves aslead doctor on a monthly clinic near Tijuana, Mexico.Dr. Hovsepyan can fluently speak,read, and write English, Armenian, and Spanish. On his off time, Dr. Hovsepyan plays soccer, tennis, and chess. He reads fiction books and listens to too many podcasts. Dr. Hovsepyan encourages you to tell him your BEST (or WORST) optometry joke.
