Jivan Hovsepyan, O.D., M.S.
Dr. Jivan Hovsepyan, O.D., M.S., was born in Gyumri, Armenia, and raised in Pasadena, California. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at the University of California, Riverside, with a minor in Philosophy. Dr. Hovsepyan went on to receive both his Doctorate in Optometry (O.D.) and Master’s in Science (M.S.) from the Southern California College of Optometry, where he conducted groundbreaking research on stereopsis, or 3D vision.
During his O.D. training, Dr. Hovsepyan worked at the prestigious Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C., treating active-duty military personnel with eye conditions related to post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. He also trained at the Four Corners Regional Health Center on the Navajo Nation, where he treated patients with severe glaucoma, cataracts, and various corneal conditions.
A passionate advocate for humanitarian work, Dr. Hovsepyan serves on the board of directors for California Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (CA VOSH) and the Pasadena Host Lions Club. He has organized and participated in over 40 free clinics, contributing more than 400 hours of volunteer service. Dr. Hovsepyan also leads a monthly clinic near Tijuana, Mexico, providing care to underserved communities.
Fluent in English, Armenian, and Spanish, Dr. Hovsepyan enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and chess in his free time. He’s an avid reader of fiction and listens to a wide range of podcasts. Dr. Hovsepyan is always up for a good laugh, so feel free to share your best (or worst) optometry joke with him!
